Car service full or interim low mileage after 12 months

I bought an opel grandland x almost a year ago. It is 3 years old now. I am doing very low mileage, about half what the service schedule days but its 12 months or x number of miles which ever is sooner isnt it?

A service agent told me before i should just be going for mini services every second year with my mileage , oil change and some minor checks in other words. I am guessing the "interim" service as advertised by the opel garages covers this. Is this a bit foolhardly should i fork our for the full service every year?

Secondly should i pay extra and go to an opelgarage or trust a spurious car service offering with my opel, saving a good few quid, potentially? I have always gone with spurious garages before but i have always owned older cars , this car is newer of course and is telling me i need to baby it a bit more.

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks as always

On a 3 year old car I would go with an Opel main dealer it’s not going to cost that much more. A minor service is generally oil and oil filter. Major would be air, fuel, oil, pollen filters change and oil change. I would get the minor service and just ask the garage if any of the other filters are due to be changed based on mileage. Like for example the fuel filter might be due every 60k km. You can just get the minor service and if you need anything else changed they will just charge you for that specific item.

If it’s a very low mileage car chances are it probably only needs oil and oil filter change but we would need to know the mileage on the car and it’s service history to say for definite.

Ultimately the Opel garage will be able to tell you what it’s due based on age mileage and what was previously changed on it.

Shop around main dealers as prices can vary. I recommend looking up the exact service needed at X miles for your car. As said fuel filters need changing rarely at X miles, and things like gearbox oil is rare
Things like timing belts are critically important. Don't assume the dealer will know or do what's needed. Often they will overdo servicing as they make more money. Assuming your car is out of warranty I would tend to avoid main dealers unless you intend trading it back into a main dealer in the next year or two. I find main dealers often employ 15 year olds and good mechanics go independent. Don't buy wipers and tyres at main dealers, particularly tyres as they often put on the cheapest they can find and charge you a fortune.

There may be s service schedule in the handbook in the glovebox, or search online for same year and engine size service schedule.
