    Hi
Hoping someone might have some advise.
Little background first is I've been laid off since July 2020 due to covid then on maternity leave which is due to end in the next month. I am looking and have applied for seven jobs but no joy yet.
My question is my mum is in an extremely bad way with her knee and waiting on a knee replacement operation but we are been told it could take up to a year. She is barely able to walk because of the pain. Would I qualify for carers allowance to look after her ? Currently doing her shopping and cleaning house and taking care of her which I don't mind but I worry about how she would manage if I get a job even though my dad is there he is in his late 70 With chronic heart disease.
    Any advise please

Sorry to hear about your mum and dad. Whilst on the surface I don't see why you would not qualify albeit I'm not sure how currently being on JSA affects a carers allowance application.

It's a very, very detailed application and will include a report from your mum's Doctor regarding her current situation, in essence provide evidence she is incapacitated, thus needing FULL time care. Your dad's condition may also be considered in any application. You certainly have noting to loose in applying, I'm not sure if you've researched the process but below a useful link. Also keep in mind, carers allowance is means Tested.

Hopefully someone who's gone through the process might offer further advice. Good luck
