Thinking more so just for something to do, restore two whiskey barrels

From what I think I know, scrape away any heavy rust from the steel bands, then go over them with steel wool or a wire brush.

Sand down the barrel with a sander, have a belt sander, any suggestion of how coarse a paper I should use?

For a finish, I'd like to stain one and paint the other maybe all black

Any recommendations on paint and stain?

Then put 3 or 4 coaster wheels on them to keep them off the ground and easy to move.

    Any suggestions would be great.

What will you use then for, salting pork bellies?

Just as decoration in the garden, they go for ridiculous money once painted/varnished 70-160 euro
