Car/mechanic advice

    Hi,

I posted about this particular issue before, but didn't really get to the bottom of it.

I've a 2013 Grand C-Max, 2 litre diesel, titanium spec, and unfortunately a powershift gearbox. I am at the stage where I would like to change the car and ideally I would offload this privately to open up my buying options.

My main issue is that the gear box has been giving a "limited function" error for some time. I'm reasonably well versed on the myriad of potential causes from needing a gearbox oil change to potential solenoid replacement, with the solutions costing from hundreds to thousands. I also haven't found a mechanic to take it on. I expect there are couple of other areas needing attention - suspension, door seals, possibly brakes. It's had very little use over the last 14 months.

My first question is to check that this is worth fixing. Based on comparisons with DoneDeal, I think yes, although there are not many comparable examples and in many ways the very reasons that it was an expensive buy in the first place almost make it less desirable now - 2ltr/Diesel/automatic/not overly frugal and relatively high tax.

Then if fixing, would anyone have recommendations for a mechanic (by PM if necessary). I won't go to all corners of the country, but anywhere from North Dublin to South Belfast is within reach.

If anyone has any other suggestions, keeping in mind I want rid, I'm all ears. The last resort is to throw it into a scrappage scheme, an increasing preference from my better half but one I would much rather avoid, not because of cost/loss but because I would end up with a car I don't really want.

    All advice welcome.

Just trade the car into a garage and say nothing about any issues.

Thanks. I don't think it's an approach I want to take. Whilst there is a local dealer who is deserving of retribution for a lemon he sold me years ago, and I probably wouldn't feel guilty about trading it into Ford, neither are likely to have a car I want to buy. The reputation of these gearboxes are well known in the industry and I think it unlikely that most dealers wouldn't exercise a higher level of due diligence on it if trading it in.
