    Hi All,

Haven't finished the pizza oven yet but thinking of moving onto an outdoor fireplace.

Out in the middle of nowhere so won't impact anyone.

Just wondering has anyone worked on something like this before?

I'm thinking block including flue gatherer with brick around it?

    Thanks for your time,
    Gary

thats the best way to do it or else entirely of brick, i'd be sceptical as to how useful an outdoor fireplace is, is it going in a covered area?

Foundation will be of great importance for this project.

That's what I'm thinking. 6 inch foundation with steel reinforcing is probably what I'm looking at.

Need to work out dimensions of fire place opening so draw a few things out.

need a bit more than six inches i would think, all the weight is going to be concentrate on a small area, depends on height etc i suppose

    Right you are:

Footings for masonry fireplaces and their chimneys shall be constructed of concrete or solid masonry not less than 12 inches (305 mm) thick and shall extend not less than 6 inches (153 mm) beyond the face of the fireplace or foundation wall on all sides. Footings shall be founded on natural undisturbed earth or engineered fill below frost depth. In areas not subjected to freezing, footings shall be not less than 12 inches (305 mm) below finished grade.

Update: Footings and firebrick base done. Need to do the walls next at the weekend.

Considering going with a brick or stone cladding rather than actual brick to front it. Dont need a cavity and dont trust my brick laying :D
