Hack the Troll

I have been getting heavily trolled on all my socials and someone had accessed me emails with a basic email hack. The content of the trolling was very personal and abusive towards my child and partner.

I was put in contact with a guy a hat hacker or something. I gave him the details of profiles I was being hacked from. The guy brought everything back to me in 48 hours pics off the trolls phone so I could identify him and his logs on the phone he access numerous profiles with. Everything.

Question being is it illegal what was done? I haven't done any wrong I just said I'd like to know who it was. But what the guy was paid for was it illegal.

    I'd say yes.

You hired and paid someone to illegally/fraudulently obtain private images and data.

Not a great move and despite what you say, you have done something wrong.

I didn't ask for images I asked for a name that was affecting my son who is 15 and my partner. If it was good enough for him to take an issue with me well then he's good enough to be exposed.

You're in luck that you came to the legal forum of boards where you will receive expert legal advice by real lawyers.

You have my sympathies, but it's like any vigilantism. Plus can you be certain it's the person who hacked you, and not some randomer he gave you?

    How much did this cost?

Definitely the person who hacked, I cannot say why I know but was given proof. And actually cheap enough 200. Best I ever spent.

But this wasn't done for me. I'll take abuse I've took it all my life attack my family and it's off the table.

Fristly, definitely illegal under GDPR for a start.

Secondly - did you or did you not request for and offer to pay for said service up front? If yes, you're on very thin ice if you go to the guards with the info.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Why would I go to the Guards with it?

Fair point, question then is: what are you going to do with it?

He will wish that is how I dealt with it. But cheers for the answers its illegal, I've done wrong. But like most if your family is attacked in any manner rationale is first casualty.

I could think of a million things what to do with the information but it doesn’t sound like the OP is well equipped to play the game and not get caught.

Might also be worth considering what made you a target in the first place.

well, as long as family protection is the goal and not revenge, life is a bit easier. Just let him know the game's up and to knock it off.

All I care about is my family. I'm big and bold enough to protect myself

I'm not very well versed in GDPR so perhaps you could explain how it is "definitely illegal" under it?

Sorry to break this to you but there is little point in going after you if they are your pressure points.

Because if many people here know you they will also know who you just identified and this will change the game

So you killed this guy’s brother, he then started trolling you on the internet, but then said something about your family, so now the gloves are off and you hired a “hat hacker” to identify him so you can reek your revenge. No one messes with family (except if you kill a guy’s brother. He just has to take that on the chin).

Will Liam Neeson star in the inevitable movie version?

Am I supposed to take this seriously?

Let's be clear here, when I stomp your foot and nod my head at you, you say yes.

You asked this guy to see if he could find out any information right? <nods head>.
You had no idea <stomps foot> nor requested him to do any hacking of any kind <nods foot> <stamps head>

Oooh well that changes my perspective completely - if you were guilty of the manslaughter of my brother the last worry you’d have is me trolling you on the internet, you’d be looking over your shoulder every time you leave the house.

Well with the basic info you've given, this type of conflict rarely has a peaceful resolution plus you've outed who it was to the many people that know you on here.

I do not know the law, but what is manslaughter, is it accidental, or intended death of another.
Example, a car crash where a passenger dies, or someone intentionally harming another person.

    I'd be the same tbh.

Its his family that he is worried about here though.

The opening scene could establish whether it was the “good” manslaughter or the the bad one.

Liam Neeson sitting alone at a bar, gripping a neat whiskey. Flashback 10 years, Liam is a cop. driving with his cop partner and best friend in the middle of a thunderstorm to a crime scene. But he’s had a couple of drinks. Suddenly a dog jumps out. Close up on its big brown eyes as it stares death in the face. Liam swerves to avoid it, but skids in the wet and hits a tree. He’s ok (and so is the dog), but when her turns around, his buddy is dead.

Out of the flashback, Liam finishes his drink and heads home. Is wife is up waiting for him, but storms off to bed as soon as he walks in the door. Liam climbs the stairs and creaks open the door of his sleeping son. He gives a little smile, pride tinged with sadness.

Suddenly, he gets a Facebook notification on his phone…

Both. Manslaughter is causing death without intention - so either carelessness (the car crash, if the driver is unfit for driving) or through assertive acts (intentional harming, if the guy is beating someone up and goes too far).

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.
