Left/straight lane with filter arrow

If you look at this junction here:

    https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3642829,-6.2285819,3a,75y,93.55h,85.87t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1szcyVpUW9eOOb-dDfHgNkiw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?hl=en

There is a lane marked left or straight and another one marked straight only. The lights also have a filter light for left.

Let's say I want to go straight and I am in the 'left or straight' lane and the left filter goes green with the red circle light still on. This means I can't go straight yet. However, there could be cars behind be wanting to turn left and I am blocking them which wouldn't have happened if I went into the other lane instead.

What's the correct approach in this scenario? Should I always try to be in the straight only lane even though going straight from the other lane is permissible but risks holding up left bound traffic in the event of a green filter?

    Thanks

If you know that the junction has an early left filter light and are feeling courteous, sure move into the straight only lane but you are entitled to stay in the "left or straight" lane as per the road markings and anybody wanting to turn left will just have to wait 10 seconds or whatever behind you before the lights turn fully green.
