Hit deer, any idea what the repair will cost me?

I hit a deer on my way into work earlier this week.
I feared the worst but the only damage done is to the bumper.

The headlight, fender, bonnet and everything valuable underneath is fine.
For those wondering (since everyone else asked), the deer died.

The bumper has a small dent and an oddly shaped (U shaped, less than 2 inches across) crack in it.
The parking sensors and washer jet have all come out of place.
The fog light also broke away but I've glued the mount back together.
I took off the bumper and it seems the plastic bracket inside is shattered, so nothing is sitting where it should be.
I've fixed it as best I could but I wouldn't be happy leaving it as is.

Is it possible to repair the bumper, or should I just buy a new one and respray it?
If I'm getting a new one I'd like to change it for an upgraded version, GTI/GTD, Golf R or even just the R Line.

Any idea how much it'll run me?

Surely you should ask a bodyshop this? At least they'll be able to see the extent of the damage.

I'm going down to one today.
I just wanted to get an idea of cost beforehand.

    Here's a picture of the damage - https://imgur.com/2DV6jlW
It's very minor all things considered.
But the plastics behind the bumper are shattered, and the fixtures (sensors, fog light and washer jet) are all out of place as a result.
Plus the crack is an awkward U shape and there's two smaller cracks in it as well.

If you need a new bumper and the related supports behind it, you are looking at somewhere around €1300. That is roughly how much I paid for a replacement bumper 4 years ago after a minor "tip". The price included paint, fitting and the rear support on my Toyota Auris.
If any of the equipment housed in the bumper that you mention is damaged and needs to be replaced then you can revise that figure upwards.....
Just a rough idea for you based on my own experience.

That's good to know thank you.

In hindsight I got off very lucky, I must have just hit the deers head and neck.
The only damage is to the bumper, no supports are damaged.
It's just the bumper and the plastic housing thats inside of the bumper.
None of the clips appear to even be damaged, there's no sagging or anything.

Exactly, sell the nice tenderised venison to help offset the repair costs.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Yep good idea as you needed a fall guy as evidence , must have been a small one as a stag would have mangled your car and your head would be mounted on his horns.

I thought it was a little fella too but my father drove that way and seen the deer I had pulled off the road, it was a doe but a decent sized one.
I couldn't have it the body of the deer, I must have just hit the head and neck.

I hit a deer at the Glen of the Downs on the N11 in 2016 in a 2016 Citroen C4 Picasso. €8,500.

He's dead, dead deer don't sue so don't worry about it.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but would your insurance not pay for that? Hitting a wild animal is kind of a random event, you can't really do much to avoid it in some situations.

If you have comprehensive insurance, your insurer will pay. They’ll try to get you to use one of their approved repair centres, which would make it difficult to ‘upgrade’ the bumper to something non standard for that car.
Also, you’ll lose your ncb unless you’re paying extra to have it protected, which means your renewal will be monstrous & you won’t be able to shop around

One of the tips with approved repair centres. Get a quote from there and then go to your local repair shop. Insurance company will pay up to what the approved repair centre quoted. Often you can get a more flexible job done cheaper with a garage you know. I had a scrape on car door from side swiping a gate. Approved centre quoted a new door at 2k. Local garage repaired for a lot less.

Silly question but wtf is a fender?

I would assume its the front wing... Fender is an American word for the same thing and has crept in to language in Ireland over the years... Same as the words tailpipe or tail lights have done for exhaust and rear lights respectively.

Did you have your gps set correctly or did you have directions to Venice on?

If you are claiming under your own policy, Insurers will often have a higher excess if you don't use their approved repairer, usually circa 250 extra

GPS set to Deerpark, with stoppages.

Seems like my Cruise control and front assist are not working either.

What age is the car. I am. Not sure I would spend 1100 euro repairing it if it's 6+ years old. No point claiming for that much off your insurance. After excess is deducted your insurance company would get the rest back over 2-3 years as even with a NCD protection you are tied to them for 3ish years especially if a youngish driver.

I would check a few dismantlers for the same coloured bumper. If you get it in the same colour it a simple bolt on job

Fingers crossed it is just the relevant systems under the bumper that have become disconnected or out of place. I believe that replacing those sensors/components can get pretty expensive.

    It's a 2016, 2L Golf
I won't be claiming anyway I've got money set aside so I'll be paying out of pocket regardless.
Looks like the brackets and bits are going to cost €50 or so, if I can get the bumper and the crack looking any way presentable I'll be happy at that.

Ya it's borderline it's only five years old so you do not want a botch job either. Check a few repair shops and see the prices, search for a same colour bumper you might get lucky. Silver is a popular Golf colour you may come across one
