    Hi folks,
Looking for a little advice not sure if I have posted this in the correct forum, I have been giving the great news today that I am been promoted to full time in my job to 40 hours a week, I'm just a little worried now about my medical card at present I hold a full medical card and it is due for renewal at any stage, would I lose my medical card now at 40 hours a week, I am on the minimum wage at work, I live alone and pay 110 euros a week on rent, I have no dependants and own a car I travel about 27 km a week in total to and from work. I have monthly finance car payments of 265
Any advice would be appreciated 😘 xx

40 hours at minimum wage is €408 a week. (say €370 per week allowing for USC, PAYE and PRSI - but note this is a rough calculation).

The income limit for the full medical card for a single person is €184.

You are allowed rent and travelling expenses (not car loan).

A rough calculation of your income is [370 - (110+5)] = €255 which means that you will be significantly above the limit.

I suspect that you are likely to lose the medical card, unless you have significant medical/pharm expenses; however you will still be eligible for the GP card.

Note however that the HSE has decided it will extend eligibility automatically for up to one year for existing Medical Cards which fall due to expire during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Here are the means test details: https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/medical_cards_and_gp_visit_cards/medical_card_means_test_under_70s.html
