A design student Ryan Schlotthauer has designed a concept vehicle, called Höga, that you could assemble by yourself at home.

The idea, which has caused a lot of talks, is based on an imaginary collaboration between Ikea and Renault born to give life to the super-compact Höga (tall, in Swedish) that would cost you only $6,5000.

But do not look for it because, at the moment, it is not in the catalog. In reality, it is just a clever bachelor thesis from Ryan Schlotthauer.

    Just a thought concept so.

Wouldn't you be better off getting a Caterham or something if you're going to be assembling it yourself?

If this ever happened, I don't think that it would be anywhere near a Caterham in "performance"

It would be more or less a bicycle with a roof and cargo space .. minus the pedals.

Competition to the Citroen AMI EV perhaps.

I do like the self assembly idea though.

A lot of people drive cars that 90% of the time are way too big for purpose. But as most of us can only afford one car we buy one that covers the family holiday as well as the mundane solo trip to work.

Something like this could be an ideal, cheap second (or third) car for those that don't like cycling or have access to good public transport

Catherham's start at about £34,000 . If IKEA was to do something like this it wouldn't be aimed at the people who would otherwise be buying a catherham.

They are after going very expensive. In the early 2000's they were about 17k new. Is this because of the EU limits on "strange" vehicles?

The £34 k figure is Sterling and was the figure I got by going to catherhams own site.

The early 2000's is 20 years ago BTW:)
