parents leave was increased to 5 weeks in April as far as I'm aware.

I took two weeks leave when my child was born last year and I got paid my full wage as I'm a civil servant.
If I take the remaining 3 weeks is it fully paid for civil servants or is the only payment option the 245 euro payment?

I think the additional 3 weeks should be the same as the previous ones, they are classified the same. But I'm surprised you got full pay when you took it. I'm public sector and I've been told I won't get paid for parent's leave and it's not the policy for the civil service.

Edited to add: did you take the paternity leave or the parent's leave?

Parent's leave - I'm not totally sure of the terminology. I think paternity leave is the unpaid leave.

That's strange. I thought the 2 weeks paid leave was standard within the civil service. I took it for both of my children

Parents leave is 5 weeks, it became law on 1 April and backdated to November 2020 - I think you may be confusing paternity leave with parents leave

Yeah, I'd say you took the two weeks of paternity leave, which is paid. Parent's leave only came in November 2019 and was recently extended to 5 weeks but it's not topped up in the civil service as far as I know (and I actually asked somebody in the parent's benefit section of social welfare about it recently).

But even though you'll only get 245/week on parent's leave (which you might actually have 5 weeks for), it won't dent your income as much as it seems once you consider that it reduces your annual tax burden by a good bit. I have used the online tax calculators in the past to figure out the difference of taking leave like that to my actual take home pay and found that helpful.

Thanks for tip re the online calculator, must check it out. I work in the private sector and work tops up my paternity leave (which I am taking in July) but not the parents leave, which I plan on taking over the next 18 months.

My sister in law, who is a civil servant, took 2 week Parent Leave last august and received €245 with no pay from work for each week.

She is planning to take her remaining 3 weeks again this august and has received her notification again.

If you have a mygov ID you can apply online and they will tell you what your allocated!
    Good luck
