Increase cabinet height ideas?

    Hi,

Anyone got any ideas of how I can make the cabinet below approx 15/20cms taller so the tank is raised up?
I want it to be the same height as a TV unit which it will be placed next to, so the side of the tank is fully visible.
It doesn't matter if the adjustment is at the bottom of the cabinet or between the cabinet and the tank as long as it will be able to hold the weight.
The tank is 125 litres so with gravel/rocks etc it will be quite heavy.

I looked at Ikea sideboards as an alternative but I'm worried they wouldn't be able to support the tank.

Why not go to a fireplace or kitchen worktop company that does granite products.

They will have some granita off cuts that they can cut to size and polish the edges.

Granite kitchen worktops come at 30mm thick but they may have narrower for fireplace hearth etc.

    Also available in different colours.

I cannot offer advise on what you ask.
Personally i think they are both focus points in a room and i be inclined to keep these things apart instead of competing.
You could consider moving them farther from each other....

    sorry....

He wants an 8" lift :)
I would be concerned about stability of the tank at that height

Just construct a plinth 150 - 200 mm in 3x2 inch timber then clad the plinth in a matching veneered panels to the unit.
You can then secure the unit to the plinth using hidden angle brackets.

Personally I hate fish tanks in houses. I think they all look absolutely awful.

I think if you want to go ahead with your plan you should gat a cabinet custom built for the fish tank. It would look much better than the cabinet you want to go with - its horrible in my opinion and nothing could make it look good even as it is let alone adding more to it.

So why don't you jog on if all you have to contribute is negativity and what you like and don't like. The Op is looking for a solution not a vote on what looks nice.

I didnt mean to offend just giving my opinion . There is no point in the OP spending time and money on something that wont look good. If they get something bespoke made up it has a better chance of
fitting in with the TV cabinet and becoming a good feature. And bespoke doesnt always mean expensive - perhaps they could even make something themselves with better quality wood etc that would look quality.

The OP is evidently looking for a solution from an appearance point of view, if he were not interested in appearance then he would just use the cabinet provided. Any 'extension' on that cabinet it is going to look poor, and as has been pointed out, could likely be unbalanced.

Doing this will make it far more difficult to clean. Handing off a ladder for maintenance.

Seahorse whose image you linked do custom tanks and stands so I'm sure they could do a "lift" for the stand or perhaps even organise some kind of trade-in of your stand for a taller one?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've come across another cabinet which is 10cm taller than the Fluval stand in the pic - its close enough to what I want, so I'm trying to source one of those at the moment.

Maybe a stupid suggestion but could the T.V. be reduced in heighth and split the difference?

No, the Tv Stand/cabinet is wall mounted.

I think it will look better at different heights, why don’t you try it first. Is it a Dermot bannon thing you want them same height?
