I am planning an attic conversion into cold storage and cover all the area with insulation + floor boards.
I currently have 6 9w led spotlight coming from the room below. and I was planning on covering them with lids like these ones:

    https://www.goodwins.ie/products/Loft-Lid-Downlight-Insulation-Cover-Hood.html

Is this a good idea? they are rated as fire proof, however I was advised that they are not safe at all and after 1 to 2 hours the heat generated, even by the led spotlight, could cause a fire.
Does anybody have any experience/could recommend an alternative?

    Nothing is fire proof
    it says
The down-light cover is flame retardant

    from another site
Please note Optime Downlighters are NOT fire rated

You could change out the lights to ones with fire protection in them. There are a number of posts about them here. If you make sure that the new fittings fit the existing holes then it would be a better solution imo

    Aurora lights for example

These hoods that you are taking about are a quick solution. People use to use clay plant pots too.

But you can get fire rated and insulated fittings that you fan push the insulation up against .
