330e / Other PHEV

    Hey All - Looking for some input on the below - sorry for another bland "what to buy" thread, however I see really good advice on here;

Looking at trading in/selling a 2.0 D4 Volvo s60 (142) and thinking of buying a 330e (17/18) - anyone have any experience with them and would they recommend? I'd consider anything PHEV really, however its also worth mentioning I want something with a bit of fun and is a nice place to sit for longer trips.

Budget is flexible (~25k including some form of trade in/private sale of the Volvo)

I'll be starting a new job in a few weeks, which is a 13km round trip, so I cant really justify the 2.0 Diesel, hence a PHEV might be ideal. I have 2 young kids but my wife's car is usually used to ferry them around, but they will obviously be in this car on occasion (and all there ****! :))

    Any thoughts?

You will get a 530e 2017/2018 for under 30k. You will get an SE model for around the 25k you mentioned but msport will be a bit higher

Good bit nicer than a 330e as its tnewer generation that just came out in 2017 whereas the 330e is a car that was launched in 2011

Thanks for the input! Are they all just better than the 330e in your opinion? Hadn't really given the Passat much attention but I will have a look now, seems fairly nice with a high spec model. Same story with the A3, always thought they were a bit small but will check it out. Is it wrong of me to say I am liking the 350e even though it looks very feminine :D

Thanks for the input, I love the 530e...would just need to see if the budget can stretch, might have to hold off for now even.

They are advertised under 30k, no idea what they are going for in reality. 25k is not far away with them. Not huge battery, but your 13km trip could be done twice on it I suppose.

I almost bought one last month, in the end pulled out but I sat in a 2017 330e in same dealership and there was a big difference in the interior. 530e far nicer. 330e looks smart on the outside though. Id guess that I will buy a 530e by years end or January 22 at latest, assuming the economy doesnt collapse around us!

Yeah I agree on the 330e, the interior is a bit old at this stage, definetly food for thought ...I do still love the exterior however. To be honest thought the 530e was way out of my budget but maybe I'll hold tight and keep looking.

Fingers crossed the economy doesn't tank :D

Me personally I don’t like the old model 330e. Unless its an M sport with the oyster leather or red interior I wouldn’t have one. That’s just personal preference of course but they are outdated at this stage.

Passat GTE with the upgraded infotainment would be a good buy IMO.

I had two Golf GTE’s and a diesel Passat so I know the Passat GTE would be a great car. Theres cheaper ones out there but this is a nice example:

I see where you are coming from. I would only consider the m-sport but i prefer just the standard black interior.

That is a nice car in fairness, I am a little concerned about the relatively small engine in such a big car, maybe I would have to test drive one.

I have 2017 330e a couple of years now, its an msport shadow edition and i agree the inside is a bit dated but the outside looks great. As regard range 25-30 km in summer, around 20 km in winter.

    2017 530e M Sport here for 27k:

    https://www.carsireland.ie/2712858

Mileage is above average but still not excessive, it has a fairly decent spec and colour combo too imo.

Passat GTE is 205 bhp. The engine alone has 140bhp which is just as powerful as a 2 litre diesel (albeit with less torque)

530e is obviously a league above if you can afford it

Agree completely and thanks for the figures...is it decent day to day?

Very nice car...says deposit taken but maybe I'll have to see. The 530e is kind of putting my other thoughts/options to shame...might have to re-think. The only reason I wasn't really considering them is because I didn't want to stretch my budget and end up with a bad example as opposed to a top example of a 330e for example. As I say I may have to rethink and have a look a the budget again.

Probably a fair bit less performant than the 330e though?

Yeah I am not sure I am able to afford a good example of a 530e but will have to have a think.

I didn't notice the deposit taken bit.

I'd say if you have time to be patient you should find one not too far outside your budget. They are a big leap up on the old 330e so worth the wait if you can.

Absolutely, thanks for the advice, one thing I can for sure do is hold tight a bit longer and I think this thread has shown that is probably the best thing to do.

    I've a 2017 330e about 8 months now.

If getting a PHEV is a big part of your purchasing decision I'd recommend going for the newer models as the 2017/2018 models have an electric range of 20km if even.

Don't get me wrong they're a great car and very fast but I'd probably get a new model if I was going to do it again as they have a lot more electric range.

I’m lucky to do 10k a year so ideal for me, the boot is a bit small because of the battery. It has plenty of power when u need it. I have no issues since I bought it, but I bought the extended warranty just to be on the safe side.

Gt motors in North Dublin have great stock, the one linked earlier is from there. He nearly exclusively does 530e, he has loads of them, very high spec. Can be on the pricier side but good examples no doubt. If its only a couple of thousand outside your budget OP I'd be holding tight if you aren't in a rush, or even throw in an offer. Some of the sane cars are up months I've been keeping an eye out.
