Paul McCartney's "Ram" is 50 years old this week. While it suffered from bad reviews at the time, it has enjoyed a resurgence in critical acclaim in recent years, so much so that many consider it McCartney's best solo album (me included).

Some commentators have called this "the first indie album". What are your thoughts on this?

While it's not "indie" in the strictest sense (it was released on EMI / Capitol), it does capture a certain spirit - a man working to his own agenda, owning every part of the process, from music to artwork to promotion.
