Hello. Is there a limit on the amount of money somebody applying for or already in receipt of Disability Allowance can have without it being taken into account when their means are being assessed? I am referring to savings, investments, assets such as property or funds received from inheritance rather than income from part time work. I think, if applying for the HAP for example, the figure is thirty thousand euro, that being the maximum allowed to qualify for the full rate. I know of course the HAP scheme is administered by the local authorities and is not related to social welfare.

Every Social Welfare payment with the word "Allowance" in its title is means tested (as opposed to every SW payment with the word "Benefit" in the title which isn't!)

The formula for assessing means from capital for Disability Allowance is as follows:

    First €50,000 Nil
    Next €10,000 €1 per €1,000
    Next €10,000 €2 per €1,000
    Balance >70K €4 per €1,000

So if your total capital is €100,000, your weekly DA payment will be reduced by €150. (10+20+120)
