Welcome to Reberetta's Surlaw: Battle Of The Champions!

What is it you ask? He, he, he, patience Highlander; before we begin, the rules:
For the regulars who are familiar with Walrus, this is essentially the opposite, where the host picks the songs, and you lovely people in Forum Games rate them via PM.

Then the Reveal is very much like how the Eurovision results are done.

    How It Will Work:

-Below I've linked YouTube videos with the 20 Songs in contention.

-What you have to do, is just listen to them and figure out which 10 you like the best.

-When you're ready Private Message a numbered list from 1-10 of your choices (with 1 being your favourite of the songs and 10 being your 10th favourite)

-First choices will earn 12 points, second 10 points, and third onwards 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 points respectively (just like in Eurovision)

-Once I've closed sign ups and tallied up all the points, I'll do a reveal thread, going through how everyone ranked the songs and adding the points to the running total (again, just like Eurovision)

It probably sounds more complicated than it actually is. Basically, listen to the songs here and then PM (that's Private Message) me your 10 favourites numbered 1 to 10 with 1 being your favourite.

Please send me a list of 10 songs ; it won't work if people just pick 6 or 7 and then decide they don't want any of the rest, so even if you're not crazy about all 10 songs you choose, go for 10 anyway.

Because I couldn't think of anything original it's a competition between all the past champions of the music tournaments run here on forum games.

22 tournaments have been run - but because the same song won two tournaments and another was "Worst Song Ever" - no point including that,  conveniently, I have the perfect twenty songs for my Surlaw. Let me refresh your memory with the winners:

Best TV theme: Alabama 3 Woke Up This Morning (The Sopranos'opening theme)
Best wrestling theme: Jimmy Hart, Shawn Michaels & Sherri Martel Sexy Boy (Shawn Michaels theme)
Eurovision 2020 competition: The Cardigans Erase and Rewind
Best song by a black artist: Marvin Gaye I Heard it Through The Grapevine
Best song by a female artist: Sinead O Connor Nothing Compares 2 U
Boybands v Girlband songs: Backstreet Boys Everybody (Backstreet's Back)
Best cover song: Nirvana The Man Who Sold The World
Best one hit wonder song: Blue Oyster Cult Don't Fear The Reaper
Best Christmas song: Dean Martin Let it Snow
Best song from the movies: Simple Minds Don't You Forget About Me
Best song of the 60s: Marvin Gaye I Heard It Through The Grapevine
Best song of the 70s: Queen Bohemian Rhapsody
Best song of the 80s: Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart
Best song of the 90s: Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit

    ok, list sent.
I had my 10 songs easily selected and I knew my number 1, but ranking the rest of them was a nightmare, kept changing the list, so now it's done and no regrets

    My first SURLAW! :)

I found the hardest task was placing the Top 10 in order, the second hardest was figuring out which two or three to leave out of the top 10.

I still haven't narrowed it down to 10. Getting it down to 13 even involved making difficult cuts.

Hoping it'll take shape with a few more listens over the weekend.

That was pretty difficult to rank, had to leave a few amazing songs off my final list

Apologies folks, had to take a break due to serious personal issues, but I'm back, new and improved version (shame the same can't be said for boards.ie).

This Surlaw is still open for a couple of weeks and I hope to get round to running it eventually.
