Doesnt make much sense but reading by where they ask about signs and rules of road.

Felt like had already done this on the theory test, Is there much of this to go through again on test day, or maybe none at all

Yes, they absolutely do, also make sure to know how to check your oil/Pas fluid/brake fluid, they will ask that too.

If you don't understand what the signs mean then you shouldn't be behind the wheel...

The reason they ask is you could have last don't the theory in 2006 for example, never done a test or failed etc etc.... You may also have never say in a car in that time so it's good to give a small test on such.

I know the signs/warnings/dangers in the practical sense. Instructor wouldn't pass me on for the test if he didn't think I was ready. Instructor happens to be my dad

But anyway. Amount of line signage there was in the test was unreal. In reality where I'm doing test and most of my driving I know where I can and can't pass out a car i.e re continuous and non continuous lines

Something basic as a roundabout. In theory there's a roundabout and a mini roundabout. I know whats up ahead but am i going to lose marks for calling a mini roundabout a roundabout or vice versa

That's just why I was asking

I wouldn't see it been major no.... They just want to see you have a grasp of what's going on...

    Cheers perfect.

I'm nervy enough as it is for the driving bit. But i will do a fresher lesson or 2 day of test. I don't fancy reading back over the rules of the road again lol. Took me 3 months solid for doing the theory

Look at all the signs, ask someone to ask you random ...

Go to bottom link, oral exam of signs

Flew these on the test man.

My head is solely based on the area i will be driving on which i think would have a good representation of these signs like any place else.

Having nightmares thinking back to the theory as I'm a theory person really lol

I have a look over them just hope tester is chilled

One that I had to think a bit about was how to put on (and turn off!) the fog lights.
I had never used them during my lessons and practice.

Just take a couple of days to read the questions in detail, learn/memorize/ review and learn all the signs. There's no short cut here unless you want to pick up a needless Grade 1 or Grade 2. Regardless of how chilled or not the tester is you still have to get them right

In relation to this can anyone post a link to the actual laminate signs test page they have in the centers for the day of the test. Or at least some replication of it Thanks.

Tester had to point out on several occasions to me the the numbers he was asking for were above/below the signs but I was doing the opposite in the test. Gave me the sh1ts before the test if I didn't have enough already. Failed needless to say

There's a section in the rules of the road book with all the signs in it.

I'm not on about the actual rules/signs of the road. I'm referring to the test page they have in the test centers for the test.

They have a layout on that page. The numbers are either below or above the signs. I can't actually remember myself.

If the test gives number for a sign to be named, and like I did, mistook the number for a sign beneath instead of above or vice versa. This lead to the tester informing me it was other way around.

It's an easy mistake to make especially on a day of nerves. I mightn't be so lucky next time.

When I did the test, the tester pointed to the signs. You could ask them to point to avoid this issue.

Yeah Covid isn't helping. On my test, tester calls it from he computer and I answer. I hope to be better armed next time. It's the nerves more so than anything

Bloody hell I picked up a pen that were beside me in an unconscious way when I was thinking about a sign and he told me put it down.

So that will give you an idea of the atmosphere in the test room that day

Do they just test road signs, ask a few questions about what buttons do what in the car and about changing oil etc before the driving test?

Is it worth going back over and doing the theory test questions again (have an app for it).

Dont want to be under pressure by not knowing a few signs etc.

You will be asked to explain a few of the roadsigns. So revise these, you will find them at the back of the rules of the road (RoR).

Your will be asked to demonstrate the handsigns from the RoR, so know them.

You may be asked how to check fluids in your engine bay. So know how to open the bonnet and identify where the fluids are. Check your car manual for regular checks.

You may be asked about the secondary car controls which includes wipers, lights, demisters, heaters, hazard lights, etc.

You will be examined on the correct use of the primary controls as you drive around i.e. accelerator, brakes, gears, clutch, steering.

    Good Luck

just did mine yesterday and ye exactly what L2N said there. The guy also asked me some 'general' questions like what does the yellow box do, what would you do when you see the coming car has high light to you. I understand this step is like a 'sanity check' on the applicant but I honestly found that it is BS (dunno, the guy is an unpleasant fella).

and ohye for the roadsigns, i just googles roads signs ireland there are plenty of useful sites with summary info thats all you need.

I hope you passed. The test is a legal requirement and it is founded on the Rules of the road. The testers are obliged to establish that you know the rules -hence the questions, and then to see that you can adhere to them as you drive about.

Testers are just doing their job. In their world the rules of the road are hugely important.

This doesn't always make sense in normal driving -theory versus practice!
