Printed Concrete

    Hi all,

I have printed concrete covering my driveway. Two years in a row I’ve used expensive black sealer on it. I just applied two coats last month and it looked great. Really brought it back to life but one month on and it looks scabby again. Granted the rain hasn’t helped but that shouldn’t undo it in less than a month.

The paint is specifically for printed concrete. But given that I’ve spent €300 on the last few efforts I’m now thinking of going with black masonry paint next time.

    Has anybody experienced the same?

    I use this...easily last a year.

I just give it a quick touch up every summer.

OP how old is your printed concrete ?

I'd ask whoever did it what they would recommend , did it last long after it was new out of curiosity ?

I wouldn't use Black Masonry that could turn out to be a disaster it wont last long at all .

JR did you put that on printed concrete its a tarmac paint ?

Yes - it's paint for tarmac but does the job....finish is a black semi-matt finish.

I guess it’s as old as the house at 12 years but I’m not sure as I am the second owner of the house.

There happen to be 4 houses on the row with similar printed concrete driveways. As I was doing it they were all commenting about how well it looked (they came for a nose). Now I don’t care less this isn’t keeping up with the Jones’s and all of theirs look worn and scabby.

Just a shame that it seems to have worn off already.... typed as it is raining AGAIN

    Any chance of a photo?

Dig it up and put in concrete or cobbleblock.

You'll be painting that stuff for your life. Awful awful stuff just requires too much maintenance and for what ? It looks like printed concrete

Tbh if that was the case I’d make my peace with it. It’s just that I feel I’m either doing it wrong or using the wrong product. If something needs sprucing up annually I’ll get over it.

You need to use proper concrete sealer and get a bit of black pigment to add to it for colour.

    OP,

We’re actually getting an imprinted concrete driveway installed in the next few weeks, the mrs wants a black one but the installer to another home owner nearby said it wouldn’t be his first choice as it tends to show the scuff marks & that black wears less well than other colours

Maybe it needs to be re sealed religious every year or two to maintain a decent look, I’ve no idea just mentioning was an experienced installer in the mid west said

Quite possibly the case. I’ll have to plough on.

Hi I got black imprinted concrete about 8 years ago. I haven’t done anything to it, it’s faded to a charcoal grey colour but still looks good. In fact a neighbour called in last week to see who had done it as her cobblelock is driving her mad with weeds

If its proper concrete sealer then it should last at least three years with proper black pigment in it,not colour.

I would do two coats if its not to big an area,1 drum should do at least 70 square metres.Should last out 3-4 years but dark black will never retain, maybe a graphite grey.
