    Hi all,

I had a thread a while back about the pros/cons for replacing an engine on an 08 Corsa. I eventually did get one from a breakers and after my local mechanic put it in all seemed fine for a few weeks - drove about 300k total in short bursts locally.
But the first long drive in it (about 50k non stop) the 'Check Engine Light' came on. Took it back to the mechanic who reset the codes (P0016 and another which I can't remember) and all was fine again for a while until the next long drive when the the light came on again after a similar length drive. He reset it again and suggested taking it to a specialist to diagnose it properly.

It did pass the NCT since (even with the light on) and drives fine but a bit sluggish under strain at low revs.

Is P0016 the end of the road or is it fixable - at a cost that would be worthwhile based on the age/value of the car? OR if I ignore it and just drive away, what's the worst that could happen?

Just to add that the timing chain seems fine which I believe can contribute to that fault code - no loud rattling or obvious skipping...

Correlation between top and bottom of engine is set via the chain. Either you have a stretching chain, a timing mistake or a sensor fault.
Im not familiar with those engines but if chain age is unknown, id certainly be checking for stretch.

Id say its the coil pack and nothing to do with the crank or cam sensors / timing chain.

Pull the coil off the car and check the individual spark plug rubbers - Id say number 3 will be corroded inside the rubber - the terminals usually turn green.

Corsas can give p0016 if the coil pack is gone.

    Interesting.

    Interesting.

P0016 is a cam / crankshaft error but what happens is when the coil misfires it throws off the cam / crank sensors - due to it missing a cycle so to speak.

Not saying it is a coil pack but Id inspect it for corrosion - I have seen p0016 with coil packs in the past.

Other code the op mentioned could be p0351 or p0017.
