Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Working Remotely for a UK Company from Ireland

    Hi,

    Just looking for some advice/pointers to resources.

    I've been interviewing with a couple of companies in the UK and they've indicated that their preferred compensation structure would involve me invoicing them for the work monthly (1/12 of the annual salary each month) and handling my own taxes. The jobs would be permanent roles.

    This seems to me to look like they're trying to get around paying employer PRSI/generally being registered as an employer for tax in Ireland. Does anybody have any advice as to the legal/taxation consequences here?

    Would also love to get a referral to a good quality accountant who specialises in this type of remote employment, anybody have any suggestions?

    Make sure you get a contractors rate. They don't want to take risk? Bloody make them pay for it.

    I'd imagine you'll have to set up a Ltd company via the CRO. You'll also have to register for taxes in Ireland. An accountant can do all this for a few hundred euro. The CRO registration can be done by oneself for 50 euro. There is a good guide on LinkedIn. You'll also need a business account. Getting that is bloody slow so you'd want to get on it.

    There's loads of services out there. Contracting Plus, Fenergo, Icon Accounting et al. I think there's a whole thread on here dedicated to contracting. Dig that out and read it. I went with a small practice myself.

    I would suggest using on of the agencies. You can even be an employee over here of a company and keep paying the normal tax if you want yo keep your prsi etc.

    There are umbrella companies that the employer can use, so you don't have to do anything. You essentially become the employee of the umbrella company and they invoice the UK based employer, collect your salary sort your PSRI, PAYE, payslip etc. I'd look into that possibility too. They charge the employer for the service, it's still a lot more attractive than them having to register here and pay corporation tax etc. It also reduces your overhead of employing an accountant, preparing invoices, paying your own contributions etc. My husband used on for several years.
