Terrible rattle from Mark 7.5 Golf

I know less than nothing about cars but the wife’s 2018 Golf has been making a god awful intermittent rattle from somewhere under the exhaust area for over a year now.

Car is under warranty and and Spirit initially told us it’s a known issue that VW are working on. Subsequently Spirit then effectively told us there’s nothing anyone can do, it’s not damaging the car end we have to live with it.

Only happens when car isn’t moving. Once she accelerates it disappears.

Can anyone advise on what to do? The noise of this thing is something to be believed 😬

That’s the one! Is it curable? Spirit have not been helpful so far

Short answer is no. A characteristic noise from that engine.

The problem is, while noise complaints like that are covered under your warranty, if there's currently no known way for a dealer to stop the noise then you are pretty much exactly where you are.

It's not like a rattling trim piece where you can put a bit of foam tape behind it.

There is no modified component for this complaint and the dealer won't get paid to replace a faulty part for noising when the replacement part wont fix the complaint, in fact they are charged back the cost of a failed repair.

There was a similar complaint with the older 1.2tsi engines and they found using high temp grease on the actuator quietened it down but it doesn't seem to work on the 1.0. VW are looking at ways to stop this as it's a popular complaint, but as of now there isn't a fix afaik.
