Folks, looking for a present to mark our silver wedding anniversary. What would ye think of the above or can you recommend something suitable with a silver bark or leaf ? Will be in the shade of a 2m high north facing wall in our 15m x 15m urban garden. Spotted one of these in a garden centre and liked the colour and shape. Won't be letting it grow mad high, say 3 or 4m max. Would like it to fill out a little. Apologies but a total novice at this.

I bought one for a similar event 11 years ago. It's in a more open site but gets shaded by a larger tree - about 10m away - for most of the afternoon. It has grown to about 2m high and 2m across, it droops more than it spreads, flowers well, has mini pears which are really a feature but are a curiosity and has never given me the slightest trouble. I did take a lopper to it a few years ago and removed lower branches to increase the "height" as it were and it does look better. It had gotten very clustered with a criss-cross, birds nest mess of twiggy branches but I was afraid it might be too delicate to withstand some pruning. I needn't have worried - it seems better than ever and as tough as nails.
