    God do they frustrate me!
Its been a while since I did a bit of work on a bike, but would usually have no issues... Until now
So it was time for a full bearing change on my full suss, frame bearings replaced and no issues as they are frame specific, next up was press fit BB, put that in and found out as I had a sram crankset, it had a tapered tapered shaft and BB I had fitted didn't allow for this, so out with BB and fitted a Sram one.

All going well until after first spin I noticed non drive crank was working loose, couldn't tighten it fully as part of crank was worn where bolt squeezed the crankset together.
So thought feck this, I'm putting in an SLX crankset, in with another BB, new SLX crankset.......now just a simple case of fitting chainring from old Sram crankset......and then found out SLX BCD is not evenly spaced so old chainring will not fit!!!!

So thats my rant out of the way!
Question for those in the know, I'm going to now replace cassette and chain along with chainring, am I restricted to shimano parts all-round or are all 1x11 cassettes and chains compatible with Shimano chainrings?

With a 11s setup you should be ok to mix and match the chain cassete and chainring

Just be aware the cassete will need to match the free hub, so you need to get a compatible one.

Usually cassete and chain from the same make is recommended as they would work better together.

Not so sure this is fully correct. KMC make fine chains which run with all major manufacturers The only chain which seems specific is SRAM red/force 12 speed axs flat-top
