    Hi folks,

looking for some guidance around where to stay in Havana - looking for a central hotel, decent enough standard - don't mind paying extra so as not to be mobbed, ideally the more adult friendly the better.........

    Thanks.

We stayed in the NH Parque Central (Now Iberostar I think) a number of years ago and found it a lovely hotel & very well located. As I said it was a number of years ago but hope that helps.

We stayed in the Hotel Nacional, it's a big old historical place, quite busy, I loved it sitting out on the veranda smoking big Cohibas and sipping on quality rum in the evening.
    Can't imagine it's changed much.

I stayed in a nice Casa Particulare which had air con, breakfast, own ensuite and a TV. It was really nice.

If you're not too bothered by spending a bit more, the Iberostar is probably your best bet. You'll have to go there to book bus tours and/or get wifi access cards anyway.

thanks for those responses folks - much appreciated - second ask now - how long would you need for a decent trip to Cuba, are we better off to stay in Havana, anything else I need to know before I jump down the rabbit hole of looking at dates, hotels, etc

    Many thanks

I did two weeks. That was a nice amount of time.

I spent all of my time in the west of the island. 2 days is more than sufficient for Havana. I'd recommend a day trip to Vinales, a few days in Trinidad, a day or two in Santa Clara and maybe end in Varadero which is where the resorts are. Allow a day to get between cities.

I also recommend bringing a supply of toilet paper, hand sanitiser, towels and the like. Very few places will have these.

A good Casa Particular should have it and the hotels certainly should. Handy to have your own when out and about though. You're better off not needing it and having it than the other way around!

My favourite place in Cuba was Baracoa, its a bit of a trek to get there but I found it well worth it. Great day trips available from there. Santiago de Cuba is worth a visit too. I'd agree on Trinidad, that's a must visit place too.

I ended up doing something like: Havana-Cienfuegos-Trinidad-Santa Clara-Santiago-Baracoa-Havana. I took a flight back to Havana at the end to save some time.
