Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What does this refer to? Does it mean the whole steering rack is gone? it says NearsideFront so if the whole thing was shagged both sides would surely be affected?

It's either going to be a tie rod or else the rack itself

If the fail report states steering linkage on the rack and pinion, then its either the inner or outer tie rod, usually outer that fails more often, I would hazard a guess that it's your passenger side outer tie rod that needs changing. If the steering rack itself was gone they'd specify they spotted a leak or something. Be sure to get tracking done after tie rod change

This is not true, racks often fail with play and no leaks, only did a Suzuki swift rack that failed on play. The electric steering on the column that's becoming more common don't leak as they haven't got fluid.

Fair enough, I thought because the OP had said steering linkage that it'd be one of the rods and not the rack itself anyway, didn't really give it enough thought to consider an electric power steering setup

This turned out to be another storm in a teacup. Just a tie rod like mk7r said

The same happened me, the tester said the rack and pinion in the steering then said maybe only a tie rod, surely a mechanic testing cars every day should know the difference?
