This is a PR piece. There was a serious amount of tax payers money paid into this college project and now the brain child behind it is trying to get it off the ground by targeting various interest groups such as deer hunting representatives bodies, private commercial stalking bodies, nature groups etc. It is suspected that the long term goal will be the rollout to NPWS and all stalkers will participate (compulsory???). There are some who say that it would have been more cost effective and efficient if they did a deal with thier counterparts in the UK which have similar systems in place.

I'm not overly familiar with the system but I am lead to belive there are live reporting options or post stalk options for reporting deer / sightings / cull. I for one won't want want a live tracking system following me around the place and altough there are guarantees of anonymity and GDPR my paranoia runs too high to be comfortable with it.

I know many sectors of society have been dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world of technology but there are plenty who have no interest or abilities in interacting with technology and again it has been suggested that the originators of this project have either not targeted the appropriate interest groups or did not got the interest or take up they expected.

Like the old expression 'paper never refuses ink' I think this could be open to abuse and numbers may be exaggerated on lands to encourage stricter deer control. On the other hand this will not be a tag system and even if it was there isn't enough boots on the ground to enforce cull records.

Coilte are to roll out something similar with up coming season - based on a hunter management system - other then the blurb in the link below, nothing else has been heard. If any one has an update please do tell.

Methinks that is/was the super Duper app the Irish deer commission talked about 4years ago, and it went nowhere yet....Remember the questionnaire that went out with our license applications? This was on it.
If this is just a counting method to get some sort of jist on deer numbers.Well and good as it is impossible to define any sort of policy if they have no clue on numbers or where they ba at.any of the other stuff you say esp any sort of compulsion wont fly,and even if it did you could "forget" the phone at home or just switch off the GPS function

    That too.:)

The intention is good with these. Just worry about the vested interests. Some people have no scruples and will line their own pocket, even off the backs of decent people with charitable, noble intentions.

I will watch with interest on the feedback.

Thanks for the info on it.
