Lawnmower won't start after changing gasket

I have a fairly bad oil leak on my Briggs Stratton 500E so decided to open and replace gasket seal. Reassembled but now it's not starting at all. What did I mess up inside that could cause this?

Spark plug seems fine.

I'll strip it down again tomorrow.

Any ideas?

No problem with fuel? Compression still good? You didn't somehow throw off the timing when you had the cover off?

So is the head gasket or the rocker cover gasket?

Did you get this sorted - I'm having similar problem (haven't done diagnostics yet). I did it before and all was fine.

The most common problem with these engines is the diaphragm seal.

This was the one for my lawnmower. Sorted the problem but took a few goes for it to bed properly. Starts first time now like it used to. This problem doesn’t cause oil leaks but bad running and difficult to start
