Car radio issue

I have a fairly new car (182) & I have an issue with the radio since I bought it (new). Not a major issue, but somewhat annoying all the same.

The radio has RDS and AF (auto frequency) is enabled. But AF rarely works. When I am driving up the country and the FM station (usually RTE or Newstalk) I am listening to fades, it hardly ever tunes automatically to a stronger signal. So, I have to manually retune the station. This is tricky enough (can even be dangerous) with the touchscreen controls.

Is it a poor quality radio or is there some setting I have selected incorrectly?

I have the "Reg" (regional) option deselected - which I think is correct.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

    Few CD’s.

Nobody should be stuck listening to rte/2fm - endless bad news/ads/mindless waffle.

CDs? What are they? Obsolete or some new fangled technology?

Anyway, my car doesn't do CDs - it has something called USB - which I haven't figured out yet.

Sometimes there just isn't a stronger signal for the radio to lock onto. The FM network is poor enough in Ireland unfortunately, with areas of weak signal. This is anecdotal evidence I'm giving you as someone who drives the 26 counties for work and my evidence is based across 3 different cars. Some areas have extremely poor 2fm reception - large stretches of the N11 south of Bray for example and also N25 Waterford - Cork road

Would you not just save the radio stations of both counties so you can easily change stations when it gets all fuzzy?

No, it's the original radio. I meant that the car itself was new when I bought it.
