    Hi,

I'm looking for a laptop with a budget of about 800-900. Want to use it for video editing and will eventually be getting back into web and app design.

Wouldn't mind the ability to play a game or two now and again but nothing significantly hungry.

Was looking at this refurbished Acer Nitro 5

    Beverly Hills, California

There is really no need to be looking at a refurbished model - you can get a brand new model with those same specs for that price brand new.

    Example - something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Pavilion-15-ec1001na-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B0877L4KMD/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=gtx+1650+laptop&qid=1620581983&sr=8-13

You are probably as well to stretch to this - more cores/threads = better video editing, more SSD space, stronger graphics card for games/video editing if software supports it.

Maybe I've just had bad luck with them but the 2 HPs I bought have had issues.1st one the graphics card burnt out after 2 years. Another one I bought is just ungodly slow when you try to open a webpage and it can't handle any hi res HD video so Netflix, Amazon Prime etc are unusable as they lag. Strangely enough Word/Office works fine and if I stream sports or films illegally those don't lag, and it's still working after 8 years other than the battery. I use it for writing since I won't be tempted to surf the net on it.

One thing to consider if doing that type of design/video/creative work is the displays on laptops are often brutal and show inaccurate colours, so you need an IPS monitor. It's a big reason MAC is industry standard for design, rhe displays are much better.

Nothing worse than working on something for ages then you print it and it looks like dog's dinner as the laptop colours are so off, same with video when you show it on something else.

if you can push the budget out the actual value provided on this is exceptional and will pay off in the longer-term

powerful cpu for video editing - absolutely blows an i5 out of the water

mid-range gpu of the latest gen 3060 - much much more capable than the 1650s and 1660's

    colour-accurate screen

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-AN515-45-Gaming-Display-Windows/dp/B08WPXKMGJ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=3060+acer+5600h&qid=1620638430&sr=8-2

value is much better than the cheaper options

you're going to be hard-pressed to get a colour-accurate screen on a cheaper gaming laptop and get anywhere near the power for video-editing and gaming

RTX gives DLSS which is a big factor these days
