Given their status as 'Ireland's national public service media', is it too much to ask that their content is proof read for spelling and grammar before publishing? Or at least hit the spellchecker button like the rest of us.

Here are some examples from the main banner headline last night...

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2021/0507/1217556-coronavirus-ireland/

'Dr Holohan also said business owners and employers have a duty of care to their staff to ensure they reopen esponsibly to mitigate the risk of Covid-19'

'Dr Glynn said that the number of patients in hospital in declining'

Is a basic ability to construct a sentence in english no longer a requirement when working as a journalist in rte?

Not an RTE problem. A problem of all media outlets now.

There are no sub-editors to catch errors in submitted work now so it's left to the consumer to point out errors some of which might be corrected.

Or tell the researchers to do their job properly. Thursday night they ran a piece about the man charged with killing that elderly man with an axe and they put up the WRONG PICTURE of the suspect, literally a completely different person who had absolutely nothing to do with the murder. And to make it worse the guy in the picture was with his son, so they put this picture up on the national news, named him incorrectly and basically took his good name away in front of the whole country..
They had to apologize at the end of the show but they are fcuked now. That guy will sue them for false accusations, negligence and trauma from being falsely accused of such a heinous crime. I hope he gets thousands from them..idiots.

Didn't you hear, you aren't allowed to challenge people on spelling any more.

In fairness though daily newspapers have always had typos. The Guardian was infamous for typology errors.

It would be more serious in a weekly or monthly publication or a printed book.

It's the news website of the national broadcaster. It's hardly unreasonable to expect proper spelling.

They're clearly able to construct proper sentences. These are just single letter typos.

God be with the days when RTE journalists hailed from upper middle class estates. Like the Right Honourable Charles Mitchell.
When they studied Greek and Latin at school.
    Not hurling and 'The Snapper'.
Dreadful business, allowing these miscreants anywhere near a public announcement system. Dear oh dear.

And tell them how to pronounce Safety (safe-tee)
    Not Saferty (safer-tee)..
    Drives me mad...
