Just to note this news source is not a news source and cannot be relied upon in the slightest imho, but worth a post to see if anyone can give some honest and non sensationalised facts on the matter.

Gardai and the Army bomb squad rushed to seal off a Swords laneway after a suspect device was found this morning.

Officers were spotted at the scene after the initial discovery was made by a local.

The alarm was raised to the Army and the path linking Glasmore Park with Rathbeale Road and the local JC's Supermarket was closed off at around 11am.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and gardai descended on the North Dublin town with several vehicles seen parked at JC's Supermarket on Rathbeale Road.

The Army stood down the operation just after 2pm this afternoon.

The suspect device was reportedly located near the back shed of a property at the lane.

An Armed Forces spokesperson told Dublin Live that the device was found to be non-viable.

Gardai said "a suspect device was sighted in the area and Gardaí were alerted to the incident".

They added that investigations are ongoing.

I remember the last bomb scare in Swords, was there and took pictures. Some eejit found (what he thought to be) a bomb in his car and figured the best way to deal with it was driving the car to the Garda station.

It would have meant the issue got dealt with substantially quicker, maybe he was onto something ;)

I'd forgotten about that lad driving to the Garda station :pac:

I wonder why they thought this one might have been a viable device - surely there are bags dumped regularly in lanes everywhere.
