    Hello,

Yes another Vrt post. Im looking to replace my vw touareg commercial van with another 4x4 as I need the extra power and grip for towing on lose surfaces.

I didnt pay much attention to brexit if im honest but I remember when my father imported a 2017 transporter a few years back he payed very little vrt and no duties.

Id love the newer Land Rover discovery’s as they come in commercial versions(no seats in rear) from factory unlike my touareg which was converted by previous owner. The vrt calculator doesnt list the newer discovery as commercial so Im wondering does the 13.3% omsp apply here or does it is it much cheaper?

Are all normal vans 13.3% now ? If so im looking at 7-10k in vrt. I have no idea if custom duties are applicable on commercials from uk imports but id imagine NI imports are duty free?

This is for business use only so would the Vat be reclaimed ?

    Vans are €200 VRT.

2 seat commercials that weren’t 2 seaters from factory are 13.3% VRT and no Nox charge

5 seat commercials are normal VRT and Nox

I think the Discovery should be €200 if it was a commercial from factory but I’m not 100% sure

Theres lots of information from Revenue online

All commercials from the mainland will attract 23% VAT and 10% customs. NI registered vans are VRT only unless it was imported to NI after Brexit.

    The 23% VAT is reclaimable

10% customs doesn’t apply if the car was produced in the UK, so the Discovery would probably be exempt

Thanks for the reply. Yes the discovery is one of many jeeps than are van versions from factory such as the landcruiser and dacia duster.

They are quite rare here in Ireland and so many in the uk. Is there any point in contacting revenue? I might message the dealers selling them they might know.

It’s technically a business expense so the Vat is reclaimable ? What about if the jeep is vat qualifying 20% in the uk, or does that not work anymore after brexit

Yeah I’m aware of the fact that some Discos are commercial from factory. I’m nearly certain they’d be €200 VRT but I’m not 100% on that. I know Revenue are strict about the passenger and cargo area being separate and no windows etc.

You should be able to purchase it without the 20% VAT as the van is being exported, and you can definitely reclaim the 23% VAT on arrival here
