After a successful week or two of picking jumps horses I'm about to do something I've never done before, ever ever. I'm going to watch flat racing, bet on it and try to enjoy it.

Flat racing for me, in the past, has not kept my interest. I've never bet on it, so that could be the problem, but also the lack of jumping means for me there's no equaliser about the horses. It's like the 400 metres at the olympics. I have no interest in it (unless an Irish girl or guy is running) and would much rather watch the fellas and beours jumping high and throwing things far in the middle of the track.

If I win, of course, this entire hatred could be reversed. If not, I'll lament my dwindling account. Either way I'm tearing to get to a race course, and hope I get to stand on a windy terrace at some point in the future, after being made a fool by asking what the on course bookie's minimum bet is. If it has to be at a flat race, so be it. Much like I was reduced to drinking Smithwicks over the weekend (it was going off) I'd be happy to take any races going, including flat racing, if we get any chance of opening up.

    Gowran
    4.55 Meishar 16/1 ew 3 places
    5.30 Barrington Court 3/1
    6.00 Amma Grace 15/8
    7.00 Cisco Disco 11/2
    7.30 Accessory 16/1 ew 4 places
    8.00 Gregory’s Gift 6/1

    Nice days racing today.

2.25 Kelso, Lesser. Horse is around 11/8 and drifting. I've backed the horse to win. Should get the 3 timer done. My best bet of the day.

2.30 Newton Abbot, Eritage, horse is very short @ around 5/2 and I just can't see it being placed never mind winning. I have it priced up around 7/1. I'm laying 3 places @ around 4/6'ish.

Few more lined up I have no time to write up.

    Final bets of the day.

3.15 Chester, Wirko. Horse is around 6/4 on the exchange but not liking it at all. Can't see the fav winning here. Confident lay bet. Hard to know what will win the race as close in behind the fav.

3.35 Netwton Abbot, Heross Du Seuil. Horse is around 11/8 on the exchange. I've backed the horse to win and an confident win bet. Given a mark of 126. Beaten 17L by Cabot Cliffs when said horse was rated 129, now rated 135. It's a game of cat and mouse with the handicapper but fact of the matter is Heross Du Seuil will rarely be giving a better opportunity to win a race. Has to win really.

3.45 Chester, Uncle Jumbo. Horse is around 13/8 on the exchange. Lay bet for me. Can't see it winning. If this race was run over 5f I'd lump on to win. Even though it ran into trouble and coulda/shouda won last time out I feel over 5f could be their main target and it's something to look over for in the next couple of weeks or so.

    That's me done.

    That's me done.

Good luck with him. Not for me though at the prices. Too much to prove regards the ground imo. His 2 hurdles' runs were on soft, and it's good today. Went for Chez Hans @ 4/1 here. Will like the ground, and if something like Amarillo Sky makes the running, then there will be a decent pace to chase. Don't think Hans will be too far away anyway.

My father and I were one of those Coill na Sionnaine backers. Look Nathan will look back on this race and reflect on what he should or shouldn't have done. He will be raging with himself and I'm sure his trainer will give him the hairdryer treatment.

He is a promising young rider and this experience will touch wood make him a better jockey. You learn so much from your mistakes and he is young and smart enough to know, that his ride wasn't his finest performance on the saddle for sure. I don't like criticizing jockeys as its the toughest gig or one of the toughest professions in sport, where they put their lives and bodies at risk every time they go out on the racetrack.
