    Hi -

Have just lost the spare key for my car (2014 BMW F11).

Is it possible to buy a secondhand 4 button fob and recode it or have I no choice but to go through dealer to get a new spare key?

    Thanks!

    Yes & No

Firstly you should get the lost key blocked from the (what used to be called) CAS.
Next, you can buy a new key from BMW or get a clone of your current key from a locksmith.
    Approx €470 vs €250

If it was my own car I'd get from BMW and pay the higher price - the key quality is good vs most aftermarket tat

I would be hesitant buying a used key online. There are multiple variants typically and you need exact correct part number. Then typically you need dealer tools to add a genuine valid BMW key.

Car key specialists can clone and make non BMW keys work.
If you have one key and use only one regularly you can keep the cheaper one as a spare for emergency use.

I recommend ringing ahead and get a few prices to save getting ripped off. Ask them the difference to a genuine key.

How do I block old key from CAS as makes a lot of sense?
