Farm Insurance on leased land

    Hi,

    Im looking at leasing land, and a farm yard. The sheds are rough, incl an old haybarn.

    Just wondering, if this haybarn blew down, and landed on a car (for example), whos in trouble - me or the land / farmyard owner?

    It would depend on the conditions of the lease but in general the landlord is responsible for structural insurance on a building that is been rented. On a commercial lease the the tenant would would have a "full repair and maintenance" clause for the buildings and would be required to reimburse the landlord for the cost of structural insurance.

    That would be full repair and insurance - an FRI lease.

    Your insurance company might extend your insurance to cover the extra leased land without increasing the premium.
