Extension to a dwelling house and Part M

Looking at notes I got on Part M 2010, I read an extension to a dwellinghouse does not need to comply with Part M provided the extension doesnt create an additional dwellinghouse.
However something in the back of my head tell me that where an extension will include a bathroom that it needs to be 'visitable'? Am I right?
If there already is a 'visitable toilet' - as in under the stairs type for houses of small area - does the extension's toilet also need to be visitable? The latter doesnt seem to me to makes sense but .....
    Thanks in advance.

the regs allow for a sanitary facility within the existing house to be adequate fo compliance
    These may be
    provided by accessible sanitary
    facilities in
    the extension or
    alternatively, those facilities in
    the existing building, modified
    where necessary
    , must be
    adequate and accessible from
    the extension
    .

Thanks very much. I can see how that makes sense.

    Just re-read Part M!
M4: Part M does not apply to ....extensions to existing dwellings provided the works do not create a new dwelling.
A new wc in such an extension does not need to comply, so?

    Correct.
I've added many WC's in extensions that wouldnt comply with current Part M standards, They are functional WC's :)
    Function over Form!
