Dash cam, linked to always on cigarette socket?

Hi all, after having a dash cam in my own car (07 mercedes c180) for the past year I've got one for our new car (141 Qashqai). In the Merc there's no issue leaving the dash cam plugged in as the socket isn't live when the car isn't running but in the Qashqai the socket stays live as long there's something plugged in. Obviously I don't want to leave it plugged in all the time as it'll drain the battery and plugging it in and out when driving isn't ideal as I'm likely to either forget to plug it in or out.
Any suggestions for a handy work around that I'm missing?

But yourself a dashcam hardwire kit. Easy to install. No change required to car wiring so fully reversible, and it looks tidier!

Look at YouTube videos to get a better idea. It's an easy, cheap diy job

Isn't there more than just the one fag lighter type socket? Thought those had at least two one of which goes on and off with the ignition? Check in the glove box for a third?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Yeah there's a second socket in the arm rest and was hopeful that one would switch off with ignition as the USB that's in there does. Unfortunately no joy and it stayed on too. Will have a hunt around for a third one just in case though

Can you not power the dashcam with a USB cable?

A wiring kit is better but a long USB cable would probably sort you out depending on the power requirements of the dashcam.

Wake me up when it's all over.
