    Hi all

Is there such a thing as simple guide to planting? I’m designing the back garden at the moment and looking for guidance on how to approach it.

I don’t like lots of planting, or grasses or anything like that.

I like the below if that makes any difference.

In no particular order I like
    - magnolia
    - copper birch
    - silver birch
    - chamelia
    - Japanese acer
    - jasmine
    - primrose
    - lavender
    - red Robin
    - tulips
    - hydrangea annabelle
    - snowdrops (my 6Nations advent calendar)

    Thanks all.

We really need a bit more information about the size of the garden, the shape, what else is there (patio, trampolines, shed etc). What kind of soil is it, what is the underplanting going to be (grass/lawn?) and a pic would be helpful.

I use a website called https://www.gardenia.net/guide/learn-how-to-grow-and-care-for-your-gardenia for gardening ideas. It does have a very annoying ‘are you human’ step every time before you can actually get into the site but it’s brilliant when you actually get in.

Put in the name of a plant and it will show you examples of planting schemes with it, you can also search by style of garden. I love it, it’s very idealistic but I’ve gotten some lovely suggestions of what goes well together.
