How easy is it to clock cars nowadays?

Not looking for info on how to - quite the opposite!

Just looking at a car for sale, a 2014 Landrover Freelander 2 and it has suspiciously low mileage, no service history and no logbook.

So I'm a bit dubious as to the history of it, and wondering is it possible for these cars to be clocked?

It's simpler than the old days once you have the right technology. Without verifiable history I'd take it as being clocked.

With no logbook how will you end up as the owner?

This would be enough for me to walk away irrespective of what else is going on with it.

Run a car check on it , i bough 3 for €60 whilst helping my son buy a car in Feb 20. Best €60 ever spent, first 2 we used , my god the mileage was way off on them both, the 3rd one came back clean, all the mileage history made sense.
    Peace of mind.

Whats the score with the 2018 NCT. Presumably it had one since as well. Mileage should be on that. But no logbook. Oh dear

With a lot of the latest cars having a digital dash with digital odometer I would say its more difficult than its analog counterpart

It’s actually easier, no dismantling required and no misaligned digits to worry about, just plug and play.

It only costs €12 to replace a logbook, walk away. Not even having a partial service history is also enough to walk away.

Very simple and quick with the right equipment.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

is there still guys out there advertising "odometer correction" out there?

Run a motorcheck and find out, I did 3 last month and you can click a mikeage investigate button and on 2 of them they found more mileage readings somehow

Now and again you'll see modern, digital dashboard units for sale with "mileage can be set to whatever you want".

Easier than ever before, I'd imagine.

think i said this before , I worked with a guy from donegal who told me bout his mate that decided he wanted to sell his ford fiesta ( fiesta i think ) they got drunk one night and he decided to clock it first , they opened up the dash and instruments panel and found a note reading ' oh no , not again '

Is it true that the dash milage is stored in one location in the code but the real mileage is stored in another part of the code?

So even if the dash mileage is changed, it will increase in step with the real mileage.

Clocking is old skool, Now it's mileage blockers.
    https://mileageblocker.com/home-1

Basically connect it up, speedo and everything works fine but mileage won't go up.

Easy enough drive for 6 months then remove it again so effectively halfing your yearly mileage with no trace.

Was selling cat few years back and the buyers garage were able to tell me the mileage on abs pump was different to car. I'd changed the pump few months before

It's certainly true on VAG derived cars, vcds will give you the true mileage, even on an unclocked car there will be a small difference between vcds and the odometer but nothing too big.
