    Hi guys,

Boot in 06 micra won't close, when I disconnected the cable connected to the switch and made the connection using a screw driver I could hear the mechanism fire.

Would this mean I need a new switch?

Is it just a case of swapping in a new one for the old one?

I have an 04 and it did the same a year or so back, my cure was to just open and shut the boot several times till it latched shut normally. Going over a bump seemed to trigger the issue but the problem has not come back. I believe it is just a dirty connection and not actually an electrical fault. It is an annoyance though when it happens. However they are great little cars and virtually indestructible, anything that does go wrong is usually small and a cheap fix.

I know from working in a nissan dealer before we used to fit a good few of the switches. Most common issues were boot not opening at all or else opening when driving along the road.

If boot lock is faulty by inserting a screwdriver into it like the stud in base it wont click to lock in place as internal spring has lost power due to rust/other to allow it to lock in place. You could try squirting wd40 inside to see if it helps to release the stuck mechanism.

Contact micro switches go in the handle and cant open boot door.

Tried the wd40 no luck. Will try order a new lock.

    Thanks for the help lads.

Lots of locks are using plastic that swells hence why it has to be replaced.

Common issue. Guy in uk will do the hard work for you.

Easiest to send hin the bad part

I found his service fast and good.

You can buy from dealer but £££ or scrap yard, but they seem to have a design flaw so a non Nissan switch is best. Videos on YouTube etc.

OP, does lock open when you short the 2 contacts? If so then its a push switch issue, which is extemely common.

You need to pull/push boot open while shorting the contacts.

If it won't open when you short the contacts then maybe its a lock issue.
