Think my n47 3 series turbo actuator is faulty. Car is down on power when I had it on the dyno and low end power is quite poor.

Garage reckons from what I've decribed that it's the actuator but I'd still need a whole new/ reconditioned turbo and that could cost 1200 quid.

There's mixed information on some of the bm forums about replacing just the actuator and replacing the whole lot so dunno what to believe.

It's easy to test the actuator with diagnostics/ vacuum pump depending on the model of 320d. Id confirm for sure its the actuator. Replacing should involve the whole turbo as its quite specific how much/little the actuator moves the arm and its not going to be easy to re set up with the turbo on the car.

That's probably why a whole unit is being suggest so. A new actuator would need to be coded as well I understand. It's going in for a diagnostic on Wednesday. Sure I seen online that ISTA can check if actuator works correctly or not.

Mine is 08 so early n47.

    This the actuator on mine.

Should also mention as well theres no fault codes coming up.

I had a similar situation on a 320D estate March 2008 N47 few years ago.
At the time I could no get an actuator here separately. I was being quoted circa 1250 euro for a new one here, about 1100 from the UK. I was waiting on a price for a recon turbo from the mechanics turbo rebuild guy.
I got it from Germany for 725 euro delivered off eBay Germany. Brand new in BMW box (its a Mitsubishi unit). Fitting kit(seals etc) was extra but cant remember how much that was.
I was also able to locate an actuator from Germany but it was 400 so a new unit seemed a better job. It took about a week to arrive. Use google chrome for automatic translation. There were lots on eBay Germany for circa €800/85 delivered at the time.
