Working while on Carers Allowance.

    Hi everyone. I used to be on the Disability Allowance, however I am no longer in receipt of the DA. I am now on Carers Allowance and from what I have heard and read, you can work up to 18.5 hours a week while on Carers Allowance.

    I have found a job which is around 15 or 16 hours a week. My question is that if I do get the job, will my Carers Allowance get deducted or will I get paid in full and be able to earn a salary while working?

    If you do get the job, it falls under the number of hours you are allowed work. However, the guidelines state also that while you are working, adequate care for the person requiring full-time care and attention must be arranged.
    In relation to deductions, carers allowance is means tested. If you are single, €332.50 of your gross weekly income is not taken into account (or disregarded). More info on the means test for your specific circumstances can be seen here:
