Garden retaining wall pillars

    Hey,

I'm in the process of digging foundations for two retaining walls. 400mm deep x 450mm wide.
I'm going to lay solid blocks on flat. 440x100x215. So the wall will be 215mm thick and 1.2metres high.

One wall is 5metres long and the other 7metres. Do I need any extra pillars or piers for strengthening these walls?

    Thanks in advance.

Not a structural engineer but if it was me I'd split both walls in 2 with a pier centred. Can always build the pier on the higher ground side so won't impact visually. Make sure to tank wet side of wall with dpm and provide drainage.

we don't do advice here but generally the foundation is 3 times the block width so 450 is too narrow
Check the web for correct depth for below frost line
How much load is going to be on the retaining wall: wet clay or gravel, with drainage

The piers will be next to useless on the high ground side. They must go on the low ground side. That way the front of the piers act as the fulcrum of the lever.
