If it's a diesel they won't even do the test, if it's a petrol they will.

So what happens just fails and I go get it fixed ? Am I better off just to cancel the test then ?

Your tool should be able to reset the light or if you disconnect the battery for about a minute it will reset. The light will appear again at a later date if the fault remains but likely you would get through NCT if done directly before it. A warning on this approach is if the fault is bad the testing during the NCT may cause damage, not sure how serious that fault is.

I did that but came back on again will try do it again before the Nct. It says it only a minor issue .

Is it just the general Engine check light?

You can put it through the test with this on, it won't fail because the light is on - but if the fault is causing a problem with, say, emissions being out of line, it will fail due to that.

I've had two different cars (both petrol) pass with engine check lights on, both were dodgy sensor readings and nothing was actually wrong with them.

If its diesel its a straight up fail for engine light on. Petrol is not

    Is it petrol?

You would be liable for the re test fee it's €28 within the 30 days of fail.

It may well pass as mentioned above, if it fails on say a bulb such as brake light for example it would be a visual and no cost as you get it replaced go back and nap a tester outside as they are parking a car.

Any type of warning light is always just a visual inspection, no?

Going by what is says online The P2015 is generally a minor code without any long term effects it's been on a good while no problems driving .

Diesel. Ok that's not bad I have know people who fail on silly things and still pay €28 for a retest

They won't test a diesel, get it fixed or cleared. You have a few days.

My scanner cleared it but it comes back again would a mechanics scanner clear it better ?

So is there no point in going to the nct ? I dont have enough time to cancel it or I will get charged at least if go in and they fail it I get 30day to get it fixed and only pay €28 for the retest.

They won't test it, how long after you clear it does it come on?
If you were to clear it in line at test centre would it last enough.

I had a light on my dash in my old car & was in a bit of a panic about it - someone suggested disconnecting the bulb behind the panel! I thought it was a bit genius! As it happened I didn’t and they didn’t fail it - on that. My ‘new’ car gad a similar mystery (to me) light on for a few years - and wasn’t failed on it. When I eventually cooped and looked it up it turned out there was a worldwide recall on a part in the passenger side airbag and that was what the light was indicating :0 Passed several NCT’s before I got the letter to bring it in for free fixing - light went off after the part was replaced. Lots of bits to that story worrying on many levels.

I’d fux it as well as you can in advance & get it tested - it might pass or show up something else important that also needs fixing - save yourself the retest penalty twice.

Just get a €20 note to cover the light.

If the light doesn’t illuminate and then go out the car will fail

This is never a good idea as the tester checks that the important warning bulbs light up when ignition is turned on, if no light appears it's a fail.

So would I just have to pay 28euro for a retest ? As it would count as a first test considering I brought it up. Went off for awhile the first time now it comes back straight away.
