Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi All

I was originally looking for a android tablet for my son but options appear to be limited in terms of ticking all the boxes. Of course, gaming is his top priority!!! My attention has turned to laptops. I was just wondering what would be the best spec laptop currently available for a budget of €700.

sounds like you'd need a laptop with a discrete graphics card

    https://www.currys.ie/ieen/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/lenovo-series-3-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205977-pdt.html

is the cheapest available in Ireland for a new discrete graphics card laptop

no better value on amazon uk at the moment either

if you buy on amazon spain, germany etc you get a foreign keyboard layout.

I had to Google, discrete graphics card :)

Just wondering is there anything similar but more compact?

    not really.

that's the standard screen size for gaming laptops - 15.6

there is one specialist model but it's way out of your price range - Asus G14

Glasso, is there anywhere to see the exact model number there

Want to check what ram and hard drive options would be available for futureproofing etc

would actually work out cheaper getting from lenovo

get 10% off code (far bottom left "stay connected") emailed - under 700 then actually

    https://www.lenovo.com/ie/en/laptops/ideapad/300-series/IdeaPad-Gaming-3i-15%E2%80%9D/p/88IPG301387

ram and storage options same as this I would assume

The offer for submitting the email address to "stay connected" was actually €100

But having done so I haven't received any code (other than the signing up one)

    Any ideas?

if you used that email before on the lenovo site you won't get one and would have to use a different email address

otherwise if it doesn't arrive after a few hours create a new gmail address anyways and use that

I just tried that box again now and it said that it would be for 10% off

Twas another email address- buying for someone else so used theirs

The 10% offf arrived since so thats that anyway

Note: it negated the previous discount, but the end price of 725 odd is still excellent value for a very solid gamer imo

only showing a used one for sale

    solid all-around well-built laptop

battery is bigger on the d14. if you buy a cable you can fit an extra 2.5 inch (ssd or hdd) in the d15

Still procrastinating over this but looks like I will pull the trigger on one of these below any final input appreciated

The Acer Swift 3 i5 512GB which with studentbeans I could get at €680

    Yoga 7 slim 14" Intel i5 256GB at €760

    Acer Swift 3.

well built, very light, good colour-accurate screen, 11th gen intel cpu is a decent improvement and runs well in it at high power level in this laptop, good battery life.
    great value

need a college email or know someone who has one.

don't have to be a current student, just one with a college email

    e.g. @tcd.ie, @ucd.ie etc.

Do you know is the ram and ssd upgradable in that?

Do you know is the ram and ssd upgradable in that?

ssd can be upgraded yes but buy a bigger m.2 drive than 512gb nvme ssd will be expensive

    ram not upgradable

pretty much all current ultrabook type models will have soldered ram that you can't upgrade.

that's the way that it is.
