Do all 26" rear wheels (18 speed) use the same size of axle, cones, bearings etc?

    No.

If you can list/photo the hub it would help, presume it's an older bike (3 at the front and 6 at the back?)

Could be 2x9 either, probably not quite so old

If it’s an older MTB, and the wheel is held on with nuts, it’s probably a ⅜” diameter axle, and if it’s a quick-release fixing, it’s probably a 10mm axle.
The length should be the same as the old one if it’s a qr, or the same or a bit longer if it’s a solid axle.

Could be but 2x from memory that only really became popular with 10 speed, as the wider range cassette meant you didn't need the 3rd ring at the front.

Same way the 500% range on a 12spd means you only need a single ring up front nowadays.
