At the moment I'm using 10W40 but have been reading elsewhere 5W40. Does it matter, what would you recommend?

It should be in the manual.
Put your car details in here https://www.mobil.co.uk/en-gb/b2c-product-selector/
It'll give you the recommended oil and also how much you need.

Thicker oil like 10/40 is sometimes used for older cars that can leak oil.
For you, I'd say to go with the site recommendations.

Don't think there's much difference between the two, aside from the fact that 10w40 would be thicker when the cars cold, but when its warmed up they'd both perform the same, maybe 5w40 would flow a little better, but like I said, once its the correct specification, I think either viscocity and temp range will work well, provided it's in line with manufacturers spec.
