ECU problems

    Hi all,
    I've been having ongoing ECU issues with a 2008 Opel Corsa. We've had the ECU repaired and we've re-placed it back into the car, however now the car won't start. When I turn the ignition the car is certainly attempting to start but cuts out after 10+ seconds.

    Just wondering if anyone else has encountered any similar situation and if there is any other workaround?


    The problem was initially misdiagnosed as fuel injector failures (which were all replaced at unnecessary expense) however I've been made aware this is a common symptom of ECU failure in the Corsa.

  • Did you approach the person(s) who repaired the ECU?
    How do you know it was the ECU that was wrong?
    Was car starting before the ECU was changed?
    Is there a mechanic involved?

    The car had been with different mechanics who were replacing parts to no success, it was a diesel specialist who said it was a common ECU issue with the model.
    At the point when we removed the ECU and posted it to the recommended auto repair (as there are none nearby) the car was starting and running albeit very poorly.
    By all accounts the ECU had water damage and was repaired and posted back. The car however won't start and we've been told to diagnose whether or not the car and ECU are communicating now. To me, it would seem to be as the dash is displaying all of the correct details for us, only the engine isn't going.
    The issue has been made more difficult by living in the sticks now with a car that won't move!

    If there's water damage, was the connector corroded?

    Heard a similar story, where a car with ecu water damage had been to a few garages, each trying to figure it out. One guy (former boards.ie) got it to start, but still could not get it running right, throwing a dtc on one injector.

    He eventually tested continuity between the injector and ecu, found that there was a connection, but a previous garage who had cleaned the connector must have stripped some pins out as on injector pin was in the wrong location.

    You need to get a proper set of diagnostic tools on it and see is there communication, can you interrogate the engine ecu etc. The dash wont tell you much of anything.




  • I also have an 07 Opel Corsa, and to day my mechanic told me there is an ECU issue with it.

    I am in Monasterevin, would anybody recommend anybody near who could look at it ?

    I had a google and saw a company called " Midlands Auto" in Portlaoise, who do this kind of work.

  • Those guys completed that ECU job for me, and they were really good.
