Do you need to be signed up for lessons to drive?

Just having a little discussion with somebody.
If somebody is planning on learning to drive at the moment.
They have there permit and insurance.
However due to Covid restrictions they can’t get lessons.
Can a family member take them out driving? They have a full license with two years, etc.
Or do they have to be signed up with an instructor before they can do this?

*They are aware of learning with a family member, risks, etc

You don’t need to have any lessons booked to go out on the road!
